| William Saxton was born 4 March 1780, in Mapperly, Derbyshire, England. He married Catherine Hemingway 29 July 1805, in Kirk Hallam, Derbyshire, making him 25 years of age and Catherine twenty-one at the time of their marriage. Catherine was born 24 October 1782. It is said that William and Catherine had seventeen children, some being twins and triplets. William and Catherine Hemingway Saxton were parents to the following known children: Thomas, christened 6 November 1807, died 17 April 1813, age 5 Un-named daughter, buried 25 May 1809 William, christened 21 February 1813, buried 6 February 1815, age 2 Vincent, christened 16 January 1815, buried 6 July 1872, age 56, md. Harriet Slater William, christened 22 November 1816, died 12 January 1848, age 32 Lydia, christened 30 August 1818, unmarried in 1851 Robert, christened 6 December 1818 Harriet, born 1821, died 23 February 1896, age 75 Thomas, christened 8 October 1821, died 23 April 1896, age 74, married Rebecca Slater Elizabeth, christened 1823, died 10 September1883, age 60, married Joseph Watkins Hannah, christened 1823 married Joseph Wardle Solomon, christened 10 July 1825, died 19 February 1902, age 76, md. Matilda Dexter Elizabeth, christened 1827 Sarah, christened 1830, married George Cook Certified entry of death, at the Register Office, Somerset House in London, shows Catherine died of Typhus Fever 8 March 1844, at 62 years of age, in New Brinsley. After she died, William went to live with his daughter, Hannah Saxton Waddle, and her family. Also certified death shows William died 24 December 1864, of natural decay, at the age of 88. He too died in New Brinsley. At the time of his death, he was listed as a coal miner. |
